My Expectation on Microsoft Certification Study

Months ago, I spent countless hours studying Exam 70-515: Web Applications Development with Microsoft .NET Framework 4. I chose certification as a mean to conduct focus study on ASP.Net. I’ve achieved my objectives and earn my certification. I am pleased with my effort. Yet I am not satisfied with the result. I can’t explain why.

In the meantime, I am studying Exam 70-513: Windows Communication Foundation Development with Microsoft .NET Framework 4. I make improvement by writing down note as blog posts, instead of writing them on text files. However, it is soon clear to me I am writing note on scratch pad. I know I have issue with collecting and recalling my note at later day. I don’t like that idea to spend countless hours writing my blogs, and fail to recite them later, especially when I need to apply the knowledge right away. I need a better way to conduct my study.

After putting some thought for a while, I realize I need to treat my study in a different way. I have to expand my horizon, and stop focusing on short term goals. I want to write blogs with these elements in mind – to explain, apply, share and recall knowledge.

I update my objectives as followed.

  • To master fundamental knowledge by summarizing key concept.
  • To share to the public, especially to colleagues, about key concept in self-explanatory style.
  • To create point of reference on nuisance and subtlety.
  • To refresh my memory on fundamental knowledge by reviewing specific concept in 30 seconds.
  • To explain practical application on key concept.
  • To mark data point on advanced subject for further study.
